Tom visits Cinnamon Hakuraa and Cinnamon Dhonveli

I’m pretty lucky to be able to call this stuff work still. Exploring new spots, meeting new people from all over the world, surfing, fishing and bringing mates and family along for the journey. We took @mitchcrews and @gabivanelli for a little strike to the Maldives with @atolltravel and even got to have Mum and Gez along for the ride for a few days for their 60th of the back of a family trip to Sri Lanka, which I’ll get to in another post 😅

We did 5 days down at Cinnamon Hakuraa Hura on the Meemu Atoll in Southern Maldives scoping out waves and catching fish. There are a few waves around the area, all accessible by boat. Some A grade rights when it’s on, and a couple sneaky slabs worth chasing. I watched Crewsy go full 2013 on a couple and Gabi take her pool knowledge into the ocean and surf some reef breaks gracefully.  The Meemu Atoll is on the most eastern point of the Maldives so there is no shortage of fish, we only went once, but could have smashed it. It’s great for snorkelling, diving and relaxing or reading the next self-help bio you’ve got on the list.

Then, I snuck two days in at @pastapointmaldives to check out the iconic left-hander and catch up with the crew running the surf operation.  It was awesome to talk to the different guests they had staying which maxes at 30 surfers. From Aussie old boys who have been coming back for 15 years, groms from Peru surfing their brains out on a family trip, father and sons from the UK who’ve somehow caught the surfing bug, dads and their daughters from California going full surf turkey to families from Brazil who made the trek all the way to the Maldives to pig out on what must be, by far the most consistent and uncrowned wave in the entire world, Pasta Point. @mitchcrews and I talked about this at length over the trip. And we’re pretty convinced there’s not a whole lot of places quite like this joint.

It was awesome to see the different surf crazed humans from all around the world. To see the gear they were all sporting, hear their stories and see the stoke on their zinc smeared and salt ridden faces.

The waves epic. The guides are helpful and will go out of their way to put you in good waves. They’ll drive you to any of the other premiere waves just across the bay in Sultans, Honkys, Jailbreaks or Cokes at ANY time which is unique for a resort. But the jewel in this places crown is by far the goofy footers heaven of Pasta Point and the fact that most of the time you’re surfing a perfect mechanical, five turn left, with less than ten people out. Often one or two. I surfed it a couple times by myself, and I was there for 2 days. It’s insane. If you have any questions about the region or the place, feel free to reach out and I’ll do my best to answer, but also @atolltravel will be your eyes and ears on the zone and the ins and out. It’s a no bullshit surf trip. It’s expensive, but so is the Mentawais, and you’re now one of the odds.
